I hope that everybody had a great Thanksgiving, and I wish everybody who’s planning to challenge the Black Friday crowds the best of luck in obtaining the best deals.
Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season for me… once Santa Claus makes his appearance in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Christmas season has begun. When I was a kid, my family went to my grandmother’s house every year. We’d arrive in time to catch the end of the parade on TV and I’d get to see Santa; the next day, my parents would take me to see the department store Santa.
I don’t go visiting Santa Claus anymore, but Thanksgiving is still the day I break out the Christmas music. It’s also time to start thinking about putting up the Christmas decorations… and in that spirit, I switched the theme of my blog to a more Christmas-y one.
I’m not alone in getting into the holiday spirit. I discovered (via a BoingBoing post) that sf author Elizabeth Hand is serializing her novella, Chip Crockett’s Christmas Carol, at her blog. I’m a generation too late to remember the type of children’s shows that inspired Hand… I never heard of Sandy Becker, and I barely remember Captain Kangaroo. Still, the first installment of the story appealed to me… it’s worth checking out.
