From the two-inch high stack of stuff I need to scan to add to my website, I guess I need to try to play catch-up…. and the best way to start is to keep from falling further behind.
I went to see the Long Island Ducks play the Somerset Patriots last night. Here are the highlights:
Dave LaPoint, Damian Rolls and Joe Valentine — all former Major Leaguers — signed their cards for my 2007 Long Island Ducks team set, leaving me just seven more cards to get signed in the set. (Unfortunately, Carl Everett is the only one who is still playing in the Atlantic League this year.)
One-time Mets pitcher Tom Martin also signed a few cards for me before the game, making my evening.
Unfortunately, it was not a good night for Mr. Martin. When he was called in to pitch, Martin left the mound with some sort of injury after throwing just three pitches.
Finally, there was one envelope waiting in the mailbox when I got home. Sean Henn signed a 2007 Topps ‘52 Rookies card for my set.
The Patriots scheduled an 11 a.m. start today, so unfortunately I had to miss the game. The mail wasn’t much better — just a “return to sender - unable to forward” from former Somerset Patriot Paul Ottavinia.
Tomorrow night I’ll be back at the ballpark to try for Carl Everett’s autograph and pick up the first part of my 2008 Somerset Patriots Ballpark History baseball card set.
