Today’s autograph of the day comes courtesy of career minor leaguer Dale Plummer.
Plummer was a mid-round draft pick of the New York Mets in 1988. His pro career lasted seven seasons, and he made it as far as AAA. His career numbers: 38-19, with 25 saves and a 3.81 ERA.
He’s now the head coach of of Colby College (Waterville, ME) baseball team.
When I was younger, my family would usually take a trip over to Scranton, Pa. so my father could see some of his relatives and friends. We’d try to time it so that Tidewater would be playing Scranton Wilkes-Barre, or at least so the Red Barons would be at home. So I actually did get to see some of these career minor league guys play as a kid.
Plummer’s card was one of the doubles I received in my recent trade with Night Owl. I may have had the 1991 Line Drive Dale Plummer card, but I didn’t have his autograph. I was able to find an address on Minor League Addresses Plus, so I took a chance and sent the card out. Just over a week later, I now have a Dale Plummer autograph in my collection.
I’m fond of those old Line Drive sets…they had some nice photography (for minor league cards, anyway) and they let you see all the colorful minor league uniforms and logos that were new and mysterious to folks not living near a AA or AAA city. They were a lot more fun to open than 1991 Donruss or Fleer (and they probably still are.
)

That’s cool. Glad a card I sent you got you an autograph. II admit that makes me feel better.
