Ike Davis

Ike-Davis-Sterling

I had my first chance to see Mets first baseman of the future Ike Davis tonight on MLB Network’s telecast of the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars game. Although Davis didn’t start, he got two at bats off the bench.

In the fifth inning, Davis pinch hit for DH Daryl Jones with a runner on first and two outs. He worked the count Boston lefthander Dustin Richardson and singled to right. Unfortunately, he was stranded there when the next batter lined out. Davis came up again in the seventh inning with runners on first and second and two outs. He worked the count full against righthander Blake Parker, but Davis grounded out to first to end the inning.

The West team, which is the one Davis played for, beat the East team 8-7.

Earlier today, I found this lovely shiny 2008 Bowman Sterling Ike Davis certified autograph card at the card shop. The shop generally goes by guide price, so I usually just go there for supplies. If I want cards, I stick with the quarter box. But every so often,  I’ll find something else that’s worth picking up. I got the Davis card for just $8, which is right around what it’s selling for on eBay — before shipping costs are added.

My scanner really doesn’t do justice to a fairly nice card. The whole thing is as shiny as the autograph sticker. Of course, Davis is trying to compete with Fernando Martinez to be the Mets’ prospect with the ugliest autograph. You can’t have everything, I guess. ;-)

  1. I’ve only seen Ike one time and he went 1-4 witha a walk in the game. He batted sixth for Brooklyn and got an IBB to boot. BUT, I did recognize his name when I saw him tonight.

    • Plus, I got Carl Erskine’s autograph at the game.

      • That’s pretty cool. I picked up a Carl Erskine card today at the local card show. I’m going to put it in the mail this week; he seems to be a good signer.

  2. Nice card, ive been looking into his auto recently

    • Thank you. Davis has a bunch of autographs out there; I think I like the Bowman Chrome one a little better than Sterling one I bought.

I wonder how much more his autograph will be simplified when he makes it to the big leagues.

      • ha, good point. My signature isnt too pretty, but its nicer than davis’. some of these signatures are ridiculous. Jeter and Griffey have some pretty nice signatures that I can think off the top of my head.

  3. If you want to see how your own autograph looks on a bat, you can go to MoZer Bats website and order custom wood baseball bats, the customization is free, you can just email then a trace of your signature! P.S. Ike Davis is a real solid ballplayer, will be a great ballplayer at the next level!
